Oral Exams
Oral exams assess each student's individual understanding of software engineering concepts and their application. They complement the team-based project by providing direct evidence of what each student understands and can explain independently.
There are two oral exams during the semester:
- Oral Exam 1 — Regulation, specification, and system design
- Oral Exam 2 — Realized system and validation
Specific topics will be published in advance. Students will be assessed on the depth and accuracy of their understanding and the clarity with which they can articulate it.
Each exam is approximately five minutes and is administered individually by Prof. Davis or Prof. France. Exams are held in person during normal class time or office hours. Questions and answers are audio recorded.
Week 9 and Week 16 are reserved for oral exams; regular class does not meet during those weeks. There is no separate final exam.
