D.12 Operating Doctrine

Four rules govern operation of a MAGE environment.

The objective is a Governed Engineering Environment in which commodity intelligence can perform more useful work without requiring engineering judgment to be reconstructed repeatedly.

OPERATING DOCTRINE "How do I run MAGE?"
  ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
  MODEL
Answer the engineering question at the right abstraction.
  ALIGN
Give selected obligations authority where they become decidable.
  CONVERT
  Make recurring, valuable judgment durable.
  MAINTAIN
Measure return, reconcile drift, retire depreciation.
  ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
        Governed Engineering Environment
                ↓
        trustworthy autonomy
                ↓
        durable engineering throughput

Modeling and Alignment are complementary, not sequential. Modeling makes more properties available to reasoning; Alignment gives selected obligations authority, either through those models or directly over actions and artifacts. Governance Conversion makes recurring lessons durable. When later work benefits from that structure, it has become Engineering Capital. Operating the environment means keeping both its engineering claims and its economics sound.
